2015-12-28After hours spent in an airport, on a plane and in the car, it's likely that you'll be reaching for some makeup to perk up your complexion. But which products are essential to bring to your luxury vacation rentals? And how should you go about packing them? Beauty and travel experts have weighed in on these concerns, offering up valuable advice for bringing the most important products on a luxury vacation, whether it's to villas in France, Italy, Mexico or the Caribbean.
About face
The stale air of a plane will often leave skin dry and dehydrated. Dana Oliver, senior beauty editor at HuffPost Style, advised spritzing on a facial mist like Evian's for much-needed moisture. This product can also help to reset your makeup and remove sweat or other pore-clogging substances. San Fransisco makeup artist and Refinery 29 contributor Katie Nash suggested fighting flakes with a rich moisturizer and nourishing lip balm. She also stressed that oil blotting sheets are crucial for eliminating shine in one swipe. A packet of these papers can be easily tossed into a carry-on bag and help to mattify a greasy complexion from hustling to the gate or lounging on the beach.
Another helpful tip is to pack multi-tasking products, like a cheek stain and lipstain in one, or a duo bronzer blush. Oliver explained that multiple-use beauty products leave more space in your bag and also save time. Opt for a moisture-rich formula, which blends more easily into a variety of areas.
Dovey Kim, beauty blogger for Cute and Mundane told Condé Nast Traveler that waterproof eye makeup is crucial for preventing smudging and smearing. With a budge-proof formula, you can make sure that you don't get raccoon eyes while basking by the pool.
Hair care
The fact is, between sight-seeing, dining, shopping and other activities, it's unlikely that you'll have time to shower as much as you'd like - and dry shampoo is a must-have for those scenarios when you're strapped for time. Oliver reported for HuffPost Style that these products can revive limp and greasy hair and give instant volume by absorbing excess oil and grime. Beauty blogger McKenzie Renae revealed to Condé Nast Traveler that a lightweight leave-in conditioner is also key for keeping hair moisturized and touchable even while it's exposed to more sun and saltwater.
Both beauty bloggers Brooke Pakulski and Shannon Ray admitted to Condé Nast Traveler that they can't live without Surf Spray by Bumble & Bumble, which creates the perfect tousled, beachy waves. Ray also uses a hydrating hair mask with coconut oil for extra moisture and shine.
Sun solutions
What's the number one necessity for beauty experts? The unanimous agreement is SPF, according to bloggers interviewed by Condé Nast Traveler. Pakulski uses a sunscreen of at least 50 or higher, and recommended a formula that's both sweatproof and waterproof. Sarah Bellum, writer for The Beauty Brains, advised against spray-on sunblock as it doesn't coat the skin as evenly, while Aimee Blaut of The Formula told the source that a facial mask can help to rehydrate skin after a day in the sun.
